August 2, 2022 (LONDON) – The United Kingdom has warned its citizens against travelling to South Sudan, and advised those travelling to the East African country to exercise caution, Eye Radio reported on its website.
“The government of the United Kingdom has cautioned its citizens travelling to South Sudan to stay vigilant due to the security situation in the country,” the advisory reads in part.
“The travel advisory was issued 29 July 2022, against all travel to South Sudan, but urges Britons who insist on visiting the country to be on guard,” it adds.
According to the website, “the advisory cited reports of inter-communal violence in some areas of the country, as well as reports of fighting between armed groups”.
Britons were further advised to remain in safe locations and avoid travelling at night.
Last week, the Canadian government also issued a similar warning to its citizens, urging them against “all travel to South Sudan due to armed conflicts and inter-ethnic violence”.
The security situation has deteriorated in some South Sudanese states due to increased communal clashes and cattle-related attacks.
